Market Motive: Internet Marketing Knowledge On Tap

John, Michael and I are starting a new company that will provide the knowledge you need to excel at internet marketing.

Our Mission : Knowledge on demand, of consistently high quality, always fresh, to solve your real world problems, right now.

Introducing…

Market Motive

We are all very passionate about education and through Market Motive we hope to share our collective knowledge and practical insights that you can apply as soon as you are done reading an article or watching a video.

The web has evolved rapidly, perhaps faster than any other channel, and yet traditional options for education have not kept pace. Additionally people have attempted to optimize for silo's (lets get good at PR or just web analytics or SEO or….) and but the web is, well, a web and it is all interconnected.

That is the gap we hope to fill. Provide insights, tips, best practices, actionable guides, interactive videos, that help make you smarter (and in turn add to the bottom line of your company) and do so from a holistic perspective (cover all the interrelated internet marketing topics).

It is also Market Motive's commitment that you will find the freshest and most current content in each area we cover. You never have to worry that you are out of loop or that there is a piece of knowledge that you are missing out. [Check out the sample content.]

market motive options

So what will we do? (Services at launch – Sept '07):

  • An exclusive online portal where you will have unlimited access to content from people with proven practical real world experience in:

    • Search Engine Marketing (Pay Per Click)
    • Search Engine Optimization
    • Online Publicity / PR
    • Website Conversion & Site Optimization
    • Internet Marketing Processes
    • Web Analytics
    • (+ Other topics we'll add as we grow)

  • Access to company faculty via focused forums where you can ask your pressing questions and get authoritative answers (which will be private, so ask away!). Its your direct access to the best brains out there, when you need it and not just at a conference or summit.

  • Consulting services, if you need them. Specific services created for you and in partnership with you. [You can put us to test. We can not only talk (above), we can also walk the talk!]

More than all of the above perhaps the most wonderful aspect is that you'll work with people who love what they are doing. They are passionate about the web and they are passionate about teaching. In every iteration you have with our company and staff you'll feel that passion.

And learning is going to be fun. There will be articles of course (more in the mold of this blog post and not just dry stuff!) but there will also be a overabundance of podcast, phone conversations, videos, screen casts etc etc.

So who are we?

Michael Stebbins, our CEO, was the VP for Marketing at ClickTracks and has years of experience as a marketing strategist.

John Marshall, our CTO, is perhaps most famous as the CEO of ClickTracks. [Here's the story on how I know John.]

Todd Malicoat joins us as our SEO thought leader. I am told he is a big deal in SEO. (I am kidding Todd!). Todd's blog is at www.stuntdubl.com.

Greg Jarboe & Jamie O'Donnell, lead the online publicity company SEO-PR and work with some of the best companies out there. You'll find them at www.seo-pr.com. [Mental note to self: Get Jamie to do PR for my book!]

Besides having the lofty title of co-Founder, I hope to contribute to the Web Analytics curriculum as well as actively learn from Todd, Greg, Jamie, Michael and John (plus the other experts in PPC and Email Marketing that will be announced before launch).

As we grow and ramp up we will add more faculty and trainers who will be subject matters experts and bring their passion and expertise to you all.

I am very excited about building a company Michael and John. I hope you'll consider joining.

So how did it all happen?

I can't actually believe at times that we are doing it. Here is a timeline of the company formation:

  1. July 26: Hey do you have some time to meet? We have a great idea we have been thinking about. Me: Ok, lets meet at 4. Everyone at meeting: Hmmm sounds delightful.

  2. July 30: Starbucks, Cupertino: Ok here are our options on structure and plans. Let's all brainstorm.

  3. Aug 02: Starbucks, Scotts Valley: This is how it all looks after rigorous thinking. Coffee. Ok good stuff. Think for 48 hours.

  4. Aug 06: Email World: Let's do it! Virtual hugs and kisses all around.

  5. Aug 10: First company meeting (John, Michael, Todd, Jamie, Brandon and I), we are cooking!

That's how, I think, it goes in the Silicon Valley! :)

[Ok to be fair John and Michael had put a lot of thought into this ahead of time.]

So what happens to the blog?

This is most common question I am asked.

This is the last value add post on this blog. I am sorry but I have to save all the good content and keep it behind the fire wall. I plan to morph the blog into platform for high horsing and doing general NVA (non value added activity) stuff.

Did you fall for that?

I am of course just kidding. Nothing changes on the blog.

I love my blog, I am grateful for all 30k of you who read it last month, I plan to stay focused on what I have done here in the last year. Life continues as normal.

That said I welcome your feedback on Market Motive, on our plans and your words of wisdom and guidance. Please share your comments.

Oh and wish John, Michael and I luck, we'll need it.

    Great news Avinash,

may you succeed in yet another endeavor. A small piece of wisdom from Stages, by Hermann Hesse:

Be ready bravely and without remorse
To find new light that old ties cannot give.
In all beginnings dwells a magic force
For guarding us and helping us to live.

Good stuff. Good luck to you all. I have corresponded briefly with Todd and read his blog – a good partner I would have thought.

Looking forward to hearing how it goes.

Congrats Avinash! I got to meet you at Google Conversion University just a few weeks ago.

Does this mean you are no longer @ Google?

    Hi Avinash,

I think your new venture will do very well. Companies are starting to bring Search Marketing in house and will really need 1:1 consultation/training/education/hands on implementation help.

Look forward to meeting you in San Jose.

William : I am not leaving Google. I am still eight pounds away from what my ideal weight is, according to my wife. So I still need to eat lots more of the awesome Google food!! :)

All kidding aside though I value the opportunity to work at Google and help improve the products and services that Google offers to its customers. I am glad that I can contract there and help apply the limited skills I have.

Everyone : I am deeply appreciative of your kind words and encouragement. Starting a company is tough, so many variables and so many possible outcomes and so much risk. Your feedback is very encouraging. Thank you!

    -Avinash.

Fantastic news Avinash, and best of luck to all 3 of you in your new venture.

From a business development POV having 3 of you working together will be immensely beneficial also, with I'm sure lots of 'bouncing ideas off each other' situations to ensure the full potential of the business is realised.

    Hi, Avinash:

Congratulations! Best of luck in your new venture – I'm sure it'll be a great ride!

  21. 21

    Congrats to all of you!

Todd is a big deal in the SEO world by the way. I've talked to him a few times for outsourcing gigs, and we met for dinner last week.

If you need another SMM/SEO guy – hint, hint – I'll be happy to contribute. ;) Com'on Todd.
